The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect retained trees have on the production in the new generation of forest, and to investigate if there is any way to lower this effect. The environmental care has also been estimated by the amount left in final felling. This project was done on SCAs initiative, comprised the forest administration of Västerbotten and was limited to the districts Åsele and Kusten. The project only includes trees and groups of trees left in final felling. Thirteen objects which were harvested under the year of 2003 were inventoried during the autumn of 2004. All trees and groups of trees with a commercial value were measured, and compared to SCAs instructions for environmental care in final felling. The volume measured was estimated to 3.3 m3 ha-1 of which 0.7 m3 ha-1 was judged to be above the demand according to the level that FSC require. The production loss was calculated to 1.8 % or 6.6 m3 ha-1 during a whole rotation. The possibilities to lower these losses were judged as limited. |

Enligt FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) skall i medeltal minst 10 träd per hektar lämnas i slutavverkning inklusive kantzoner och andra hänsynsytor. Vidare skall man inte skapa stora kala ytor och alla så kallade naturvärdesträd skall sparas. Att lämna kvar träd innebär ett lägre virkesuttag och en lägre virkesintäkt vid avverkningstillfället men också att produktionen i framtiden blir lägre på grund av konkurrens. Syftet med det här arbetet var att utvärdera vilken effekt kvarlämnade träd och grupper av träd har på den nya generationen skog, samt avge förslag på hur produktionsförluster kan minskas. Arbetets syfte var också att uppskatta volymen på de kvarlämnade träden, och göra en bedömning huruvida för mycket eller för lite naturhänsyn har lämnats utifrån SCA:s instruktioner. Arbetet har utförts på SCA:s initiativ, berört Västerbottens skogsförvaltning och begränsats till distrikten Åsele och Kusten. Arbetet omfattade endast detaljhänsyn i form av träd och trädgrupper. Tretton objekt som slutavverkades under 2003 inventerades under hösten 2004. Alla träd och grupper av träd som bedömdes ge gagnvirke mättes in och bedömdes utifrån SCA:s instruktioner för naturhänsyn vid slutavverkning. Den inmätta volymen uppgick till 3.3 m3sk/ha varav 0.7 m3sk/ha bedömdes som övermål enligt vad FSC kräver. Produktionsförlusten beräknades till 1.8 % eller 6.6 m3sk/ha under en omloppstid.
