The company pcSKOG AB is the leading producer of programs for forest management and
has developed the program since 1997. The program is currently the most common program
used by private forest owners in Sweden.
The aim of this thesis, leading to MSc in forestry, is to investigate the purpose of the private forest owners when purchasing the pcSKOG-gård. The thesis also studies how private forest owners use the program, what they use it for and how the private forest owners state that the program has achieved to fulfil their expectations.
The thesis is also a market research concerning the knowledge and attitudes the private forest owners have about the program and associated services.
The study material has been collected during two phases. The first phase used the method of a questionnaire sent to a random selection of forest owners drawn from the company's customer directory. This phase was performed to collect quantitative data for statistical analyses and to try to find different categories among the private forest owners.
The second phase was an interview study, with the randomly selected private forest owners.
The purpose of this part of the study was to try to investigate the forest owners' knowledge of pcSKOG-gård and the owners' attitudes concerning associated services from pcSKOG AB.
The study shows that the private forest owners in general are satisfied with pcSKOG-gård and the services that pcSKOG AB offers. The forest owners also believe that the program has met their expectations and that the purpose has been achieved.
Some of the private forest owners hold the opinion that pcSKOG-gård is hard to understand
and use, but this is primarily because they lack computer skills. Therefore these forest owners suggest a development of the program to facilitate the use of it.
The study states that there are differences between forest owners due to gender, which the
company should consider when marketing the program and offering services. The differences
are for example due to the genus of the forest owners who live on the estate, their level of education and how important they state that the forest is for their economy.
Another conclusion to be drawn from the thesis is that social patterns are important to most private forest owners. Recommendation from their "forest contact" is what most forest owners stated as the information channel and the reason why they bought pcSKOG-gård.
The study indicates that there is a growing demand from the forest owners for developing the services concerning pcSKOG-gård. The demand can be met with education in the program or by service offers such as the updating process of the forest stands data and the associated forest map. |

Dataprogrammet bygger på inventering av skogsbestånden och en digitaliserad kartdel med GIS-applikationer. Programmet har utvecklats för att erbjuda privata skogsägare en digital skogsbruksplan med möjlighet att uppdatera skogliga data. I Sverige är pcSKOG AB det ledande företaget för digitala skogsbruksplaner. Programmet; pcSKOG-gård har utvecklats sedan 1997 och är idag det vanligast förekommande skogsbruksplanprogrammet bland privata skogsägare i Sverige. Syftet med examensarbetet har varit att undersöka skogsägarnas syfte med införskaffandet av pcSKOG-gård. I studien undersöks även hur och vad de använder programmet för samt hur skogsägarna tycker att syftet med programmet har uppnåtts. Studien är även en marknadsundersökning av skogsägarnas kunskaper och attityder till programmet och de kringtjänster som pcSKOG AB erbjuder. Materialet för undersökningen har samlats in under två faser. Den första fasen bestod av en enkätundersökning ställd till skogsägare som slumpvis valts ut från företagets kundregister. Syftet med enkätundersökningen var att samla kvantitativa data för statistisk bearbetning och för att försöka påvisa olika kategorier bland skogsägarna. Fas två bestod av en intervjustudie med slumpvis utvalda skogsägare. I syfte att försöka få bättre kännedom om skogsägarnas kunskaper om pcSKOG-gård och deras åsikter angående de tjänster som pcSKOG AB erbjuder till programmet. Undersökningen visar att skogsägarna generellt är nöjda med pcSKOG-gård och den kringservice som pcSKOG AB erbjuder. Skogsägarna anger även att programmet har motsvarat deras förväntningar och att syftet med införskaffandet av pcSKOG–gård har uppnåtts. Några av skogsägarna anser att pcSKOG-gård är svårt att förstå och använda, vilket främst kan förklaras med deras bristande datorvana. Dessa skogsägare föreslår därför att programmet utvecklas till att bli mer användarvänligt. Det framkommer i undersökningen att det finns skillnader mellan skogsägare beroende på kön. Detta bör företaget beakta vid marknadsföring av programmet och vid erbjudande av tjänster. Exempel på skillnader är fördelningen av manliga respektive kvinnliga skogsägare som bor på fastigheten, deras utbildningsnivå och vilken betydelse de anger att skogen har för ekonomin. En annan slutsats är att sociala mönster är viktiga för flertalet av de privata skogsbrukarna. De flesta av skogsägarna uppger rekommendation från en ”skoglig kontakt” som informationskanal och skäl till köpet av pcSKOG-gård. Undersökningen antyder att det bland skogsägare finns ett växande behov av utveckling av tjänster i anslutning till pcSKOG-gård. Behovet kan mötas genom utbildning i programanvändande eller genom att erbjuda hjälp med uppdatering av beståndsdata och kartmaterial i skogsbruksplanen.
