Detta examensarbete har skrivits för att vara ett stöd vid upphandling och stöd för eventuell investering av kompakteringsrede. Anledningen till detta är att Sydved Energi AB vill öka sin produktion och vinst. Syftet med detta arbete är att jämföra prestationen mellan två olika typer av ”risskotare”, lätt modifierad skotare och skotare med speciellt kompakteringsrede. Studien genomfördes som en jämförande tidsstudie. Två trakter per skotare har studerats. Den beräknade årsproduktionen blev 11925 m³s högre för den lätt modifierade skotaren. Dessutom blev årskostnaden 0,89 kr/m³s lägre för det lätt modifierade redet. En anledning till denna produktionsskillnad kan vara att den lätt modifierade skotaren kör på ackord, vilket borde vara lite prestationshöjande. Det ska också tilläggas att kompakteringsskotaren samtidigt behövde i genomsnitt 4 färre högar för att fylla ett lass, vilket borde öka produktionen.
