Mediante un inventario de la avifauna asociada a paisajes ganaderos en la cuenca media del río La Vieja, Colombia, se contabilizaron 11.620 individuos, pertenecientes a 188 especies, 19 órdenes y 49 familias 41 especies más se observaron fuera de los muestreos para un total de 229. Se seleccionaron 14 usos del suelo para el muestreo los frutales y las pasturas con alta densidad de árboles tuvieron la mayor abundancia de aves, en tanto que los remanentes de vegetación natural (bosque ribereño,guadual, bosque secundario y sucesiones vegetales)presentaron la mayor riqueza y diversidad de aves y el mayor número de especies de interés para la conservación. Los resultados confirman que los remanentes de vegetación natural en paisajes ganaderos pueden albergar avifaunas ricas y con elementos de interés para la conservación. Por otra parte, los usos de la tierra con alta densidad de árboles albergan una porción considerable de la avifauna y pueden ser una práctica de manejo más amigable que la ganadería tradicional sin árboles. An inventory of birds was carried out in fourteen different land uses in La Vieja River watershed,Colombia, where 11,620 individuals from 188 species,19 orders and 49 families were detected 49 more species were recorded outside the sampling plots. The land uses {91}fruit trees’ and {91}pastures with trees’ showed the highest abundance of birds, while {91}remnant forests’ (riparian, bamboo, secondary growth and successional forests) showed the highest bird diversity and richness, and the biggest amount of species of interest for conservation.In relation to treeless pastures (both natural and improved), all other land uses are significantly different in terms of abundance,richness and diversity. Results confirmed that the remnants of natural forests in cattle landscapes can house a variety of bird species, some of them of importance for conservation.
