Se analizó el desarrollo de la población de Helicoverpa (heliothis) virescens en tabaco, en el noroeste argentino, y las principales causas de los cambios naturales en su población. Como factor independiente de la densidad de la plaga se tomó la temperatura y, como factor dependiente, su depredación por parte de Cosmoclopius spp. Se determinó que existe una estrecha correlación entre el desarrollo de la población de H. virescens y el del depredador y las temperaturas diarias de la zona. Desde el momento del trasplantar hasta el inicio de la cosecha, existen las condiciones térmicas necesarias para el desarrollo de una a dos generaciones de la plaga, según la zona, medidas en grados-día-Heliothis acumulados.
