Se realizó un estudio de laboratorio, en el CATIE, Turrialba, Costa Rica, con el objetivo de evaluar diferentes aislamientos de Beauveria bassiana (Bals), para seleccionar los más virulentos para el control del picudo del chile, Anthonomus eugenii (Coleoptera: Curculionidae). Se evaluaron varias concentraciones del hongo en suspensión de agua y aceite, para determinar la concentración letal media (CL50), usando como métodos de aplicación la inmersión y la aspersión. Todos los aislamientos fueron patogénicos para el picudo, determinándose para los aislamientos 447, RL9-1, 113, 9205, 9218, 9006, 35 y 290 el mayor porcentaje de mortalidad, el menor tiempo letal (TL50) y el mayor rendimiento de conidios en arroz. Las suspensiones de B. bassiana, tanto en agua como en agua mezclada con aceite al 3 por ciento, incrementaron la mortalidad del picudo y redujeron la TL50 conforme aumentó la concentración. La CL50 en agua fue de 1,2 x 106 conidios/ml y en aceite de 2,2 x 104 conidios/ml, lo cual indica que la eficacia del hongo aumentó al adicionar aceite a la suspensión. A laboratory study was performed at CATIE, Turrialba, Costa Rica, with the objective of evaluating different isolates of B. bassiana (Bals), to select the most virulent for control of the pepper weevil Anthonomus eugenii (Coleoptera: Curculionidae). Several concentrations of fungus in water and oil suspension were evaluated, to determine the half-lethal concentration (LC50), using immersion and aspiration application methods. All the isolates were pathogenic to the weevil, the greatest percent mortality, the lowest lethal time (LT50) and the greatest yield of conidia on rice was determined for the isolates 447, RL9-1, 113, 9205, 9218, 9006, 35 and 290. The suspensions of B. bassiana, both in water and in water mixed with oil at 3 percent, increased the weevil mortality and reduced the LT50 in accordance with the increased concentration.
