Se analizan las experiencias de un proyecto que promueve un modelo de desarrollo basado en el manejo y aprovechamiento de la biodiversidad tropical por las comunidades rurales. se identificaron y validaron diferentes productos no madereros del bosque analizando los desde el punto de vista ecológico, económico, social e institucional-político. La experiencia indica que la valoración de la biodiversidad debe contemplar el manejo y uso de los recursos maderables y no maderables, tanto tradicionales como no tradicionales, verificando su sostenibilidad económica y ecológica. Se detectó asimismo, que la continuidad de la de las acciones dependen del nivel organizativo de las comunidades. Para lograr resultados duraderos, las instituciones nacionales deben de funcionar como apoyo externo a las indicativas de los grupos locales. The experiences of a project that promotes a model development based on the management and utilization of tropical biodiversity by rural communities, are analyzed. Different non-timber forest products were identified and validated, analyzing them from ecological, economic, social and institutional-political point of view. The experience indicates that the appraisal of biodiversity must contempled the management and use of timber and non-timber resources both traditional and non-traditional, verifying their economic and ecological sustainability. It was also detected that the continuity of the actions depends on the organizational level of the communities.
