Summary:The following characteristics of Coffea arabica L. showed certain differential value for the standarization of cultivars in this species: 1. leaf length, 2. leaf width, 3. leaf length/leaf width, 4. angle of insertion of branches, 5. plant tallness, 6. shoot width, 7. internode length, 8. seed length, 9. seed width, 10. seed length/seed width, 11. color of young leaves, 12. number of flowers per node, 13. yield, 14. resistance to wind defoliation and 15. length of the period of fruit development. The need for more research on physiological and horticultural characteristics of Coffea arabica L. is emphasized, since some cultivars are not easily distinguished on just morphological basis
