Summary: | An experiment was conducted to evaluate common bean crop residues (CBR) as a feed for beef cattle. Feed conversion to beef was poor, this being in contrast to other favorable nutritional features of CBR. Consequently, and based on current beef prices in Costa Rica, at the present time it is not recommended the use of this residue in commercial fattening operations. For the small farmer, however, there is now the necessary information for the appropiate use of CBR to help prevent the large losses in cattle productivity during the dry months. As expected, due to the low protein content of CBR, protein supplementation is of importante. |
