A pilot center was constructed at CIAT to evaluate the technology developed on a lab scale and to produce a sufficient quantity of biomass for the practical evaluation with animal feed, especially swine. A report is given on the most recent results obtained at the pilot plant. Results of various feeding trials with protein biomass, obtained at the pilot plant, indicate that the product has a good nutritional quality, whenever it is adequately supplemented with met. El microorganismo utilizado fue el hongo Aspergillus fumigatus I-21A, un mutante que no produce esporas y puede crecer bajo condiciones muy selectivas a una temp. de 45 grados centigrados y pH de 3,5. Se construyo una planta piloto en el CIAT con el fin de evaluar la tecnologia desarrollada a nivel de laboratorio y para producir suficiente cantidad de biomasa para la evaluacion pratica en la alimentacion animal, especialmente de porcinos. Los resultados de varios ensayos de alimentacion con la biomasa proteinica obtenida en la planta piloto, indican que el producto tiene una buena calidad nutricional, siempre y cuando se suplemente adecuadamente con met.
