Description
Summary:Pathogen genomic data are critical in the development of vaccines and diagnostics. Currently, there are only a handful of Rift Valley fever virus (RVFV) genomic sequence data. For a long time, generation of genomic data for RVFV has relied on culture of the virus. This procedure often requires highly skilled personnel to handle the pathogenic virus, and is labour-intensive and time consuming (minimum 14 days). We designed a simple and cost-effective method that enriches the virus particles directly from clinical samples. This enrichment procedure targets the virus, which can then be sequenced in a near real-time manner devoid of cell culture enrichment.
