Summary:Community-based breeding programs developed and implemented by the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA) have become an accepted strategy of choice for small ruminant genetic improvement in Ethiopia. Local Ethiopian Universities in 2019 officially incorporated the breeding strategy in their curriculum, including a tailored MSc training on breeding and genetics in two local universities. The curriculum program is supported by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, with ICARDA providing technical support for the teaching process.
