Next-generation school feeding: Nourishing our children while building climate resilience
Publicado 2022“…The G20 is an intergovernmental and multilateral platform comprised of 19 countries and the European Union, which connects prosperous high-income and emerging middle-income countries worldwide. The G20 process could prioritize food systems to address climate change challenges. For this paper, the research team reviewed the G20 countries' recommendations in national food-based dietary guidelines (FBDGs) for red and processed meat (RPM) compared with available per capita consumption data and expert-recommended targets to promote healthy and sustainable food systems. The results reveal that Indonesia, India and Saudi Arabia have the least red meat available for consumption (less than 10 kilograms (kg) per person per year).Other G20 countries exceed the recommended red meat target of less than or equal to 26 kg per person per year.Sixteen G20 countries have translated their national guidelines into FBDG food graphics for the public.Twelve G20 countries recommend that people limit their RPM daily or weekly to reduce cancer and heart disease risks.Australia, France, Italy, Mexico and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland align RPM targets with recommendations to limit cooked red meat intake to three or fewer servings (350-500 grams) a week.Six G20 countries (Brazil, Canada, Germany, India, Italy and the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland) recommend minimally processed, plant-rich food choices or environmentally sustainable dietary patterns. The G20 meetings in Indonesia (2022), India (2023) and Brazil (2024) should prioritize and harmonize healthy and sustainable food system policies with international trade policies to mitigate climate change effects and manage sustainability trade-offs."…”

Investigating genomic prediction strategies for grain carotenoid traits in a tropical/subtropical maize panel
Publicado 2024“…This project assesses the predictive ability of several genomic prediction strategies for maize grain carotenoid traits within and between 4 environments in Mexico. Ridge Regression-Best Linear Unbiased Prediction, Elastic Net, and Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Spaces had high predictive abilities for all tested traits (beta-carotene, beta-cryptoxanthin, provitamin A, lutein, and zeaxanthin) and outperformed Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator. …”

Genetic dissection of triple rust resistance (leaf, yellow, and stem rust) in Kenyan wheat cultivar, “Kasuku”
Publicado 2025“…A recombinant inbred line (RIL) population (181 lines) derived from Kasuku (triple rust-resistant) and Apav#1 (triple rust-susceptible) was evaluated under artificial LR and YR epidemics in Mexico and YR and SR in Kenya. QTL mapping using genotyping-by-sequencing (DArTSeq) and phenotypic data identified four major loci: QLrYrSr.cim-1BL (Lr46/Yr29/Sr58) on 1BL, conferring resistance to LR, YR, and SR; QLrYr.cim-2AS (Yr17/Lr37) on 2AS, providing LR and YR resistance; QLrYr.cim-3AL on 3AL; and QLrYrSr.cim-6AL on 6AL, representing novel loci associated with multiple rust resistances. …”

On the Use of Hedonic Price Indices to Understand Ecosystem Service Provision from Urban Green Space in Five Latin American Megacities
Publicado 2017“…This study seeks to assess the possibility of using real estate prices to provide an estimate of the monetary value of the ecosystem services provided by urban green space across five Latin American megacities: Bogota, Buenos Aires, Lima, Mexico City and Santiago de Chile. Using Google Earth images to quantify urban green space and multiple regression analysis, we evaluated the impact of urban green space, crime rates, business density and population density on real estate prices across the five mentioned megacities. …”
