Sumario:Damage of ground or water conditions due to logging operations is a subject of discussion within Swedish forestry. Heavy logging machinery is sometimes entering water areas, delicate habitats and endangered species causing damage to these habitats. Taking this into consideration in the planning and implementation of thinning operation the site can be properly prepared for final felling and the risk of harmful sedimentation and leakage of nutrients can be reduced. The purpose of this study is to find out whether the Sveaskog instructions regarding thinning in edge zones close to streams is followed or not. Sampling and comparing parameters in the stand vs the edge zones after the logging operation shows an inconsistency in following these instructions.
