description The purpose of this study was to investigate the technical expertise among harvest operators. The study focused mainly on technical areas that have a greater impact on the productivity of the machine. To establish the ideal level of knowledge of a harvest operator, a group of experts was interviewed, this way the result from the harvest operators interviews could be compared to the established ideal level. After analyzing the difference between the level established by experts and the harvest operators, development areas could be identified. The harvest operators also estimated the increase in productivity that they expected to gain through further education. By estimating the intended increase in productivity it was possible to calculate if further education was a good investment for the company. The conclusion after analyzing the results and the operators comments is that further education is a good investment for the company. Not only because the intended increase in productivity, it will also improve the operators motivation, self-esteem and general wellbeing at work.
