The young horse field tests are highly correlated with later performances in competition. The total proportion of horses with own observations to include in the genetic evaluation are slightly under 50 %, and in most cases their pedigrees are known. Pre-selection occurs when parts of the population never is tested at young age or never compete due to an assumed lack of talent. This can led to an underestimation of breeding values, which has been shown in other populations of farm animals. Pre-selection occurs in most horse breeds, but to different degrees. An inclusion of competition- or field teststats has been proven to reduce the effect of pre-selection in other horse breeds. However, the breeding values of Swedish Warmbloods are based upon information from both young horse tests and competition. It can be assumed that this reduce the effect of pre-selection to some extent. It would be interesting to further study of including test status in the genetic evaluation of Swedish Warmblood. |

Den svenska varmblodiga ridhästen är en populär sporthäst där avelsmålet är att producera konkurrenskraftiga individer i både hoppning och dressyr. Rasen har sitt ursprung i de inhemska kavallerihästarna, men har varit starkt influerad av utländska hingstar genom alla år. Avelsvärden för rasen beräknas med hjälp av unghästbedömningar vid tre och fyra års ålder och tävlingsprestationer. Unghästbedömningarna speglar avelsmålen och är starkt korrelerade till framtida prestationer. Ungefär hälften av hästarna i populationen har egna resultat till grund för avelsvärderingen, och i de allra flesta fall är härstamningen känd. När förselektion sker sorteras en viss del av populationen ut innan de blivit bedömda eller tävlade, något som kan leda till felaktiga avelsvärden. Inom husdjursaveln har man sett att förselektion ofta leder till en underskattning av avelsvärdena i en population. Förselektion av hästar till bedömning och tävling sker inom de flesta hästraser, men graden varierar. Ett inkluderande av bedömnings- och tävlingsstatus har visat sig minska effekten av förselektionen inom andra avelsförbund, såsom för olika raser av travhästar och islandshästar. Då avelsvärderingen för svenska varmblodiga ridhästar baseras på information från både unghästtest och tävling kan man anta att effekten av förselektionen redan reducerats till viss del.
