course description and objectives. Second, a presentation of the exercises that the course consisted of. The exercises are illustrated with a case study of a student project. The purpose of this paper is to present the course approach and to highlight the question of concept implementation within the Landscape Architecture Program at SLU, Ultuna. The design process begins with a theme, Feeding the planet - energy for life. The student’s ability to interpret qualitative and quantitative information are explored through architectural experimentation. The result, an exhibition pavilion for the World Expo in Milan in 2015, lacks a foothold in the actual location, providing the conditions for a placeless design thinking. This report will show that there are more ways of relating to the
design process then taught by the Landscape Archichtecture Program at SLU, Ultuna and hopefully inspire the readers to seek new and alternative sources of inspiration. |

Inom landskapsarkitekturprogrammets studiokurser blir studenterna främst introducerade till en typ av gestaltningsprocess, en process som utgår från platsen och dess förutsättningar. Här presenteras en kurs och en designmetod från Cornell University vars syfte är att ge studenten verktyg för ett mer konceptuellt tänkande kring gestaltning och form. Designmetoden presenteras i två steg, först en redogörelse för kursupplägg och kursmål. Därefter framställs de övningar som kursen bestod av. Övningarna illustreras med en fallstudie över ett studentprojekt. Syftet med uppsatsen är att presentera upplägget och att öppna upp för diskussion kring konceptimplementering i utbildningen. Processen som presenteras startar med ett tema, Feeding the planet - energy for life, och testar sedan studentens förmåga att genom arkitektoniska experiment tolka kvalitativ och kvantitativ information som formspråk. Resultatet, en utställningspaviljong till världsutställningen i Milan 2015, saknar en förankring på den faktiska platsen, vilket ger förutsättningar för en annan typ av gestaltning. Här premieras den fria tankens möjlighet att kring ett tema skapa form och funktion, utan att primärt utgå från en plats. Denna uppsats vill visa att det finns fler sätt att förhålla sig till gestaltningsprocessen och förhoppningsvis inspirera till att söka nya och fler inspirationskällor.
