Sumario:There are some hazards associated with mediating dogs for adoption to Sweden from foreign countries. Contagion is considered to be one of them, but this report focuses solely on what adoptions may signify to the dogs concerning animal welfare. The aim of this study is to investigate how the business in Sweden is run and what this can imply to the adopted dogs. Websites of the organizations which perform mediation of dogs, has been examined to show which information is available. A web questionnaire was sent to these organizations to learn more about their standard procedure. To follow up the situation of the adopted dogs, a web questionnaire was also sent to previous and former dog owners of adopted dogs. Results is shown regarding the organizations initial and subsequent inspections considering adoptions, competence of the superior staff, requirements for the adopters along with which information is given about dogs available for adoption. The results from the web questionnaire show the occurrence of and reasons for re-homing and euthanizing. Some of the respondents have experienced that their dogs exhibit behaviours that can be problem related, such as separation anxiety, fear, aggression or insecurity. However, the majority of the respondents indicate satisfaction with the adopted dog.
