description The horse is used today mainly for leisure and sport, but also in health care and therapy. More than 500,000 Swedes are employed in the horse industry, in competition or leisure activities, and equestrian sports are the second largest sport in terms of training and competition among women aged 7–70. Many riders are not as diligent in training themselves as they are in training the horse, which leads to asymmetrical riders and horses with back pain. There is little scientific evidence on how riders should train to optimize their seat and impact, but it is generally accepted that riders should strive to become more symmetrical. This study aims to compile and map the effect of supplementary physical training on the impact and seat of riders. With more knowledge on the subject, riders of any level can strive for better seat and impact, which gives improved horse welfare. The questions this literature study asks are: How does dismounted training affect the seat and impact? Which form of training is most suitable for improving the seat and impact? The result showed that all studies in which the rider's symmetry was measured, showed asymmetries in all riders. Dismounted supplemental physical training was found in six of a total of 15 studies, in all of these six studies, the dismounted training led to an increase in the rider's ability to impact and / or seat improvement. Three of the studies were also able to demonstrate a link between dismounted training and increased performance in the saddle, such as a more versatile seat and better impact and coordination. Similar relationships that asymmetries are common, and that good core strength is required for performance could also be seen in other sports. The studies indicate that that dismounted rider training seems to make the rider more centred, balanced, and symmetrical leading to increased impact. The form of exercise that is best suited to improve the seat and thus the impact is all form of core training, where the body's core is strengthened, and symmetrical strength is increased. Future research can be directed towards dismounted training versus performance as the area is relatively unexplored today.
