has been an increased demand for knowledge in the choice of plants to be used.
The purpose of this work is to find out if it is possible to increase the number of vertical gardens in Gothenburg, while taking into consideration the city’s climate. The choice of plant material has been investigated and evaluates the best plants to use for this climate. The
definition of vertical gardens in this work is plants which are mounted on a vertical surface
without anchoring into soil.
Through studies of literature, visits to different sites and conversations with professionals in
the industry, information has been compiled and analysed.
Based on the collected information, the following conclusions can be drawn. Plants that must
cope with growing on a wall in the harsh climate of Gothenburg, must come from a similar or
a more extreme climate. The plants must be able to withstand extreme temperature changes,
survive in sub-zero temperatures without the root system freezing, be able to grow in limited
substrate, and survive throughout periods of drought. |
