| Sumario: | In the young forests of Sweden the birch covers 30 percent of the standing volume and is a big competitor to the spruce- and pine seedlings. The dominating method to handle naturally rejuvenated birch in the young forest is to use a brush cutter. From a cut off birch stump grows sprouts that can grow very fast and a second and even a third cleaning can be necessary.
The purpose of this thesis is to study the difference of the sprouting ability after cleaning with two different cleaning tools. One equipped with a disc and one with a chain.
The results show that the share of the stumps without any sprouts is bigger after cleaning with a brush cutter equipped with a chain. But the choice of cleaning tool makes no difference for the total number of sprouts. |
