The aim of this study was to investigate how the gut microbiota affects the health of the dog, and how raw feeding affects the gut microbiota in dogs. Studies have shown that dogs who were fed raw feed with a large proportion of meat, and little- or no carbohydrates, showed increased microbial diversity and had an increased number of microbial groups that are negatively correlated with IBD and allergy. An increase of microbial groups that stimulate Immunoglobulin A (IgA) were also observed. There was also an increase of microbial groups that are negatively correlated with short chain fatty acids (SCFA), which may adversely affect the immune system. The conclusion is that raw feeding affects the microbiota as mentioned above and that the gut microbiota affects the health of the dog when it comes to the immune system, allergy, IBD and in some cases obesity and cancer. Raw feeding could potentially help to ease or prevent diseases such as allergy, IBD and possibly even cancer and obesity. Some microbial groups, that are linked to diet, have been observed to affect these diseases, but more studies need to be conducted to examine how raw feeding affects dogs with these diseases. Studies also need to investigate whether the effects on the microbiota depends on if the feed is raw or the nutritional composition (especially the carbohydrates). |

Intresset för råutfodring av hund har ökat markant de senaste åren, och intresset för att lindra eller förebygga vanligt förekommande hälsoproblem hos hund med diet har blivit en trend. Det har visat sig att tarmmikrobiotan har en roll i vanligt förekommande sjukdomar så som allergi och inflammatorisk tarmsjukdom (IBD) och spelar dessutom roll i immunförsvaret. Syftet med studien är att granska vad tarmmikrobiotan har för inverkan på hälsan hos hund, samt granska hur råutfodring påverkar mikrobiotan hos hund. Studier har visat att råutfodrade hundar hade en större mikrobiell diversitet och en ökad mängd av mikrobiella grupper som är negativt korrelerade med IBD och allergi. Dessutom dokumenterades en ökning av mikrobiella grupper som stimulerar produktionen av immunglobulin A (IgA). Det sågs även en ökning av mikrobiella grupper som är negativt korrelerade med kortkedjade fettsyror (SCFA) vilket kan ha en negativ effekt på immunförsvaret. Slutsatsen är att råutfodring påverkar tarmmikrobiotan så som det nämndes ovan, samt att tarmmikrobiotan påverkar hundens hälsa när det kommer till immunförsvar, allergi, IBD och i vissa fall även cancer och övervikt. Råutfodring skulle eventuellt kunna bidra till att lindra eller förebygga sjukdomar som allergi, IBD och eventuellt även cancer och övervikt. Vissa mikrobiella grupper, som är kopplade till diet, har setts spela roll i dessa sjukdomar, men fler studier behöver utföras där det undersökts hur råutfodring påverkar hundar med dessa sjukdomar. Det skulle även behöva utföras studier där det undersöks vilka effekter som beror på att födan är rå och vilka som beror på näringssammansättningen, speciellt mängden kolhydrater.
