| Sumario: | This report examines the potential of waste incineration in the capital Chisinau of Moldova. The waste from the 900 000 inhabitants is today deposited on landfill and gas imported from Russia is used for heat/steam production. Limits of this study is that only the steam-/heat production was studied and any practical obstacles was not taken under consideration in the calculation.
To execute the survey an Excel program has been used. The program was created year 2009 and therefore some key figures needed to be updated. The focus of the program is environment, economy and energy. Further data of Chisinau had been added to the program to execute the calculation. The data can be broken up in two parts, one in general data and one in specific data for Chisinau. To collect relevant and necessary information a literature study has been executed. The information related to Chisinau has been obtained through contacts.
The result shows that Chisinau has potential for investment of two incinerators for a power plant that has a total installed power of 150 MW if the waste that is deposited on landfill instead would be incinerated. According to the program’s calculations, the produced heat was 1.16 TWh, which is equivalent to 46% of Chisinau’s total steam-/heat production. The pay-back time of the two incinerators would be approximately three years and this short pay-back time is due to incomes related to the fuel and the incineration and that no operating and maintenance cost are considered. Another obtained result was that the emissions of CO2-equivalenter decreased when waste is incinerated compared to a scenario where it is landfilled, and heat is produced from other finite fuels. |
