I have chosen to do a case study on my own farm in this essay. The farm is focused to cropping and also have some properties for hire. The farm is situated in the village of Fjelie and that's where the opportunity for selling heat are. Fjelie has about forty houses.
The idea is to build a plant where straw is being used as fuel. Being a grain grower you have access to plenty of straw. To avoid problems with smell and smoke from the plant it is being placed at our farm in the outer part of the village instead of in the middle of the village as also would have been possible. In the middle of summer when you are busy with the grain harvest the plant doesn't demand a lot of work instead most of the work is done during winter.
To find out how the energy use were in the village an inquiry were given to the people that lives there. They were given questions about their use of energy for heating. I have been in touch with people that have done similar investments and asked them about what you should be aware of. The people in the village was also asked if they were interested in replacing their old heating system with this as that is a major issue for the project. People were in general positive about it as long as they were able to get cheaper heating.
I have chosen to compare tree different alternatives for small district heating with straw as fuel. In two of the alternatives the plant is being fed by batches of straw in big bales in the third alternative the plant has a straw chopper and continues straw feeding by automatics. There is a fairly big difference between the alternatives when it goes to investment and also the need of work.
My calculations in this essay show that this investment wouldn't be as profitable as i was hoping. All the alternatives are too expensive to build as there also is a to small demand for heating. The village this essay was about uses a relative small amount of oil and most of the people heat there house by electricity or heating pump and those are hard to compete with when it goes to economy.
Although I believe that similar investments can be very profitable as long as you can find a place that has a big demand of heating.
You can always discuss the price of your straw and work but my opinion is that you should have a full pay when you are doing big investments as this one. |

För att ge vårt företag fler ben att stå på ville jag därför undersöka de ekonomiska förutsättningarna att sälja energi. Jag har valt min egen gård att utgå ifrån för att göra denna studie. På gården bedrivs växtodling samt uthyrning av ett fåtal fastigheter. Gården ligger intill byn Fjelie där jag ser möjlighet till energiförsäljning. Fjelie har ett 40 tal bostäder. Tanken med det hela är att bygga en anläggning för eldning av halm, eftersom detta är en produkt man som spannmålsodlare har tillgång till. För att inte få problem med lukt och rök placeras anläggning på vår gård i utkanten av byn istället för att bygga i byn som det också fanns möjlighet till. På sommaren då man har fullt upp med skörden har man litet arbetsbehov med anläggningen men på vintern desto mera. För att ta reda på hur energiförbrukningen ser ut i byn har lämnade jag ut en enkät till byborna där de fick besvara frågor om deras uppvärmning. Jag har haft kontakt med folk som gjort liknande investeringar för att ta reda på vad man skall tänka på vid denna typ av verksamhet. Det är också en avgörande faktor hur bybornas intresse är för att byta uppvärmningssystem, därför frågades de även i enkäten om deras inställning till detta. Folk är överlag positiva och kan tänka sig att byta system förutsatt att det blir billigare för dem. Jag valde att jämföra tre olika typer av system för halmeldning, i två av alternativen matas pannan satsvis med storbalar medans den andra har halmrivare och en kontinuerlig inmatning med automatik. Det skiljer ganska mycket i investering och arbetsbehov mellan dessa. Mina beräkningar visar att investering inte blir så lönsam som jag hoppats. Samtliga alternativ blir för dyra att bygga i kombination med ett för litet behov. Byn som projektet gällde använder relativt lite olja och många har el-värme/värmepump installerat som är svårt att konkurrera med prismässigt. Dock tror jag att liknande investeringar på andra platser kan vara mycket lönsamma det gäller bara att hitta ett stort värmebehov.
