These are some of the reasons that I have chosen to write about the establishment of winter oilseed rape in Middle Sweden.
There are many factors that influence the outcome of the establishment, e. g. proceeding crop, method of establishment, autumn weather, soil texture and the time of seeding.
In Middle Sweden proceeding crop have usually been fallow or grass/clover but now some farmers have tried alternatives like barley and peas

Also the methods of establishment are beginning to change. Ten years ago the only option was ploughing, but many farmers now use non-plough tillage. Advantages with this method are higher soil moisture and that compaction due to tractor tracks is reduced. This will compensate for a small yield loss that can result from using this cultivation method.
The future of the oilseed crop looks bright. OSR are used for new purposes and the proportion used for RME will increase the more expensive diesel become.
A yield of over four tons in Middle Sweden is not impossible and winter wheat, that is the dominating crop of the area will yield much better following OSR
The key to success is to get a good establishment to the lowest possible cost. If establishment costs are low, then yield levels can be moderate to achieve a good net surplus. You will not get rich from high costs. |

Odlingen av oljeväxter är ett aktuellt ämne i Sverige och de som aldrig haft oljeväxter i växtföljden testar det. Men det är alltid en liten chansning att så oljeväxter och då speciellt höstoljeväxter med tanke på risken av utvintring. Risken ökar ju längre upp i landet man kommer och därför blir etableringen och tillväxten under hösten mycket viktig. Detta är några anledningar till att jag valt att skriva om etableringen av höstraps i Mellansverige. Presentationen bygger på litteraturgenomgång och intervjuer med 12 lantbrukare i Mellansverige Det är många faktorer som styr hur etableringen blir. Dessa kan t.ex. vara förfrukten, etableringsmetoden, årsmånen, jordarten och såtidpunkten. Förfrukten till höstoljeväxter har i Mellansverige främst varit träda och vall men nu börjar odlarna lära sig att använda alternativa förfrukter som spannmål eller ärtor. Även etableringsmetoderna börjar att ändra på sig. För bara tio år sedan var plöjning nästan det enda alternativet innan odling av höstoljeväxter. En metod som många odlare använder sig av idag är stubbearbetning. En fördel med denna metod är man lättare kan behålla fukten i marken. En annan fördel är att antalet överfarter reduceras kraftigt och då kommer en skördeminskning inte att påverka resultatet. Framtiden för oljeväxtodling ser ljus ut. Användningsområdena för oljeväxterna vidgas och andelen RME (Rapsmetylester) kommer att öka ju dyrare dieseln blir. En fröskörd över fyra ton i Mellansverige är inget omöjligt och dessutom får man en perfekt förfrukt till den så dominerande höstveteodlingen. Genom att resonera på detta vis kommer oljeväxtodling gå en lysande framtid framöver. Det gäller att få en så bra etablering till en så låg kostnad som möjligt. Om kostnaden för etableringen blir låg behöver inte skörden bli hög för att få ett bra resultat.
