When I advocate a certain concept for a project, I influence the outcome, and in doing
so I take on a personal responsibility. Even though my judgement is built upon facts and
cooperation with colleagues and other consultants, I am always responsible for the part I
play and how I affect the course of action. To what extent can I advocate my view and
is it actually my responsibility to do it? How is my subjectivity part of my knowledge
and influence as a landscape architect?
I have interviewed three well known Swedish landscape architects to have their view on
the matter. Since they are all strong individuals with huge experience and influence, the
personal responsibility they bring upon themselves for their design action is as
important.
I have also used one of my own projects as a case study, analysing my design and
standpoint and my relationship to the client to illustrate how these questions emerge
even in the smallest projects.
In the last section of the investigation I have searched for clues in diverse literature.
This section is divided into three view points; the society, the profession and the
individual. |

I det här arbetet har jag velat utreda hur jag kan förhålla mig till min subjektivitet och mitt ansvar som landskapsarkitekt och konsult. När jag genom min gestaltning tillämpar en strategi jag tror på så utövar jag ett inflytande på projektets utformning. Detta inflytande och den eventuella förändring av projektets riktning som det innebär gör att jag tar på mig ett personligt ansvar. Även om mitt beslut är grundat på sakkunskap och även om resultatet alltid är en kompromiss mellan min egen vilja och andras, så är jag personligt ansvarig för min egen medverkan och de argument jag framhåller. Hur länge bör jag hävda min strategi och hur stor del av den är jag som individ, min subjektivitet, min tolkning, och hur mycket är sakkunnighet? Ansvaret i designhandlingen ligger dels i processen, dels i resultatet. Under processen ska jag både hävda de värden som landskapsarkitekturen företräder och vara lyhörd för andra intresseområden och åsikter. Det innebär en balansgång där jag i varje projekt måste väga de två mot varandra. Dessutom gör jag i varje projekt min egen tolkning av landskapsarkitekturens värden. Jag läser situationen genom min subjektivitet. Ansvaret ligger också i hur jag påverkar resultatet. Eftersom två landskapsarkitekter aldrig gör exakt samma tolkning, så är jag alltid personligt ansvarig för den tolkning jag gör och den gestaltningsstrategi som jag väljer att föra fram. Min tolkning innebär alltid ett ställningstagande och det ställningstagandet medför ansvar. Jag har intervjuat tre kända landskapsarkitekter för att ta reda på hur de ser på subjektivitet och ansvar i gestaltandet. De är alla starka individer med lång erfarenhet, vilket innebär att de är vana att ta ett stort ansvar för sin designhandling. Med ökad kunskap, erfarenhet och status, så växer även det ansvar de tar på sig som konsulter genom att deras makt att påverka blir större.
