But are we perhaps missing out on other ways of seeing the landscape?
The purpose of this paper is to present sound as a tool of transformation. Sound in public spaces has long been treated just as noise and therefore unwanted. Measures of noise has reduced and neglected the qualities that sound has. But by finding and exposing these qualities, sound can hopefully be seen through other eyes, and ears.
This paper hopes to do that by presenting other ways of treating sound. Through litterature studies, presenting good examples and applying a method of sound analysis with the purpose of using so called "active sounds" in soundscapes. |

Landskapsarkitekter har många sätt utgångspunkter välja på för att gestalta miljöer. Det vanligaste är att det görs med utgångspunkt från det visuella. Att skissa och analysera med papper och penna är de metoder som är mest frekvent använda och etablerade inom yrket och i utbildningen. Men missas kanske en del möjligheter genom att negligera andra sätt att se på landskapet? Den här uppsatsen syfte är att presentera ljud som ett verktyg för gestaltning. Ljud i våra offentliga miljöer har länge behandlats utifrån att det är något oönskat. Bullermätningar och missförstånd om vad ljudkvalitéer faktiskt är har lett till en missvisande bild i allt för hög utsträckning. Men genom att hitta och framföra dess bra egenskaper, kan ljud i landskapsarkitektur förhoppningsvis ses och höras med både ögon, och öron.
