Biological pest management is today relatively common among commercial growers but there are good possibilities to apply this method in the home gardens as well.
The aim with this thesis is to compile a report from both the companies that are marketing the products and the home gardener´s point of view. This should give a better understanding of the market and how it could be improved.
We will give examples of products that represent the different kinds of organisms that are being used in biological pest management. Our hope is that this will be an introduction to all interested in biological pest management.
The legislations regarding registration of organisms are still a matter of discussion and are causing problems to producers, distributors and the market in general.
Why isn´t biological pest management more common in the home garden? The main reason appears to be the lack of knowledge in the subject.
What are the benefits using biological pest management when it requires so much knowledge and it´s more expensive than conventional pest management?
With the environmental problems we face today, we hope that every single gardener has an interest in developing an environment as clean as possible, even if only in one's own backyard. |

Biologisk bekämpning är en bekämpningsmetod där man använder sig av växtskadegörares naturliga fiender. I Sverige har vi använt biologisk bekämpning sedan 1970-talet och utvecklingen har sedan dess gått stadigt framåt. Biologisk bekämpning används idag relativt mycket av yrkesodlare men möjligheten att använda denna metod också i hemträdgården är stor. Målet med det här examensarbetet är att sammanställa en rapport med utgångspunkt från såväl produktföretagens som fritidsodlarnas intressen, detta för att få en uppfattning om hur marknaden för biologisk bekämpning ser ur och hur den skulle kunna förbättras. Detta har efterfrågats av FOR (Fritidsodlingens Riksorganisation). Vi kommer ge exempel på produkter som representerar de olika nyttoorganismerna som används. Tanken är att det ska fungera som en inblick i ämnet för en fritidsodlare som ännu inte kommit i kontakt med biologisk bekämpning. Lagarna kring registrering av nyttoorganismerna är något som diskuteras flitigt och som idag orsakar problem både för företag som saluför biologisk bekämpning och för trädgårdsnäringen generellt. Varför används inte biologisk bekämpning av fler fritidsodlare? Den största anledningen är bristen på kunskap, inte bara kring växtskydd i stort utan även kännedom om begreppet biologisk bekämpning. Varför ska man då använda sig av biologisk bekämpning eftersom det kräver så mycket kunskap och det dessutom är dyrare än kemisk bekämpning?
