description This is a final project which makes up 20 credits at the Landscapearchitecture programme at SLU in Alnarp. The thesis is design based. My final project is comprised two parts; of a competition entry for " A New Square in the Centre of Täby" as well as a theoretical study that derives from the competition proposal. The competiton itself was announced on March 1st 2007 with the final hand-in date on May 28th 2007. The program of the competition asked for a flexible urban square that offers a diverse range of activities that can be used during both night and day, all year around. I became interested in the term 'mutlifunctionality' and I went on to use the subject as a base for my design approach. I then took the ideas and concepts that I had picked up during the competition and then applied them, through various site visits and associated research, to the city of Barcelona and it's urban spaces. Some of the ideas I have touched upon during my final project are: How have the functions of the square evolved and changed throughout history? Which functions are important in public spaces? What is 'multifunctionality'? How do designers make multifunctional public spaces? Why is it important to design multifunctional public spaces in the city? The thesis has looked at the idea of multifunctionality in the city and draws upon many social, cultural and architectural references that have derived form the design process of the competition.

2008-05-19 Other NonPeerReviewed application/pdf sv https://stud.epsilon.slu.se/12574/1/henriksson_g_171024.pdf Henriksson, Gabriela, 2008.
