The administration of childcare and education in Botkyrka is arranging a network between the different preschools where they work together to improve their outdoor environments. The network is arranging workshops and seminars where people from the different preschools can come and gain inspiration for improvements of their own preschools. The administration of properties has created a document where they describe the changes that are supposed to be made to the different outdoor environments.
Through the administration of properties and the person who is responsible for the outdoor environments I was introduced to their work with the preschool playgrounds. I was given the opportunity to work with one of the playgrounds, the playground of Kungstäppan.
Kungstäppan is a preschool in Tumba with close to sixty children in ages 1-6 years. They have just begun to improve their playground. They have also been given additional land that they will expand their outdoor environment into.
There is a strict financial limitation on the refurbishment of the playground. Botkyrka is thus attempting to gain as much as possible with small investments. In consultation with Kungstäppan, the administration of properties and the administration of childcare and education I have worked with the playground of Kungstäppan. I've
used the teacher's ideas as basis and tried to transform them into a new design.
One of the conclusions I've made during my time working with the local government of Botkyrka, is that the connection between the pedagogy of the preschools and how the outdoor environments are designed is many times insufficient. They have started off well to make things better but needs to improve the methods for how to work in order to make the pedagogy more visible in the outdoor environment. |

På senare år har forskning angående utemiljöns betydelse för barns hälsa, utveckling och lärande redovisats vilket har stärkt förskolegårdens roll. I Botkyrka kommun pågår ett arbete med att rusta upp och utveckla förskolornas utemiljöer. Arbetet bedrivs mellan fastighetskontoret, barn- och ungdomsförvaltningen och förskolorna själva. Barn- och ungdomsförvaltningen arbetar med ett utemiljönätverk mellan förskolorna där det arrangeras workshops och föreläsningar för att inspirera och stötta till att arbeta med sin egen gård. Fasighetskontoret har upprättat en utemiljöplan över alla förskolor vilken beskriver dagsläget och vilka arbeten som skall utföras på gården. Jag fick kontakt med fastighetskontoret och den projektledare som där jobbar med utemiljöerna. Det fanns en klar bild om på vilket sätt jag kunde bli en tillgång hos dem och jag blev informerad om vilka mål de hade med förskolornas utemiljöer, vilken pedagogik de jobbar med samt referensobjekt som representerar det som de strävar efter. Jag blev t ex presenterad för den förskolan i kommunen som kommit längs med arbetet kring att utveckla sin utemiljö. Tanken var sedan att jag skulle arbeta med en specifik förskola genom att ge en gestaltning åt deras idéer och pedagogiska tankar. Förskolan Kungstäppan ligger i Tumba och är en verksamhet med ca sextio barn i åldrarna 1-6 år. De är i startgroparna i arbetet med sin utemiljö och har börjat med några mindre förändringar på gården. Kungstäppan ska också få en ny bit mark som skall bli en del av deras utomhusgård och därför ansågs denna förskola vara ett bra projekt för mig att arbeta med. Förutsättningarna för att kunna förändra är knutna till resurstillgången och i Botkyrka kommun jobbar man med små medel för att kunna förändra så mycket som möjligt på förskolegårdarna. Många gånger hjälper föräldrar till att genomföra projekt på gården, detta för att också stärka gemenskapen mellan föräldrar, barn och personal såväl som det gör att utemiljön får en personlig prägel. I samarbete med förskolan Kungstäppan och i samråd med fastighetskontoret och barn- och ungdomsförvaltningen, arbetade jag fram idéskisser på hur förskolan i fråga kunde utveckla sin utemiljö. Det gav mig möjligheten att blicka in i hur en kommun kan arbeta med utveckling av barns utemiljöer, vilka som deltar i ett sådant arbete samt att själv delta i processen. Arbetet har visat att en koppling mellan utemiljöns utformning och det pedagogiska arbetet måste bli tydligare. Kommunen jobbar med bra medel, såsom utemiljönätveket och utemiljöplanen, men dessa måste bli starkare och koppla pedagogik och utemiljö.
