By studying The Concise Townscape by Gordon Cullen and Byens uttrykksformer by Thomas Thiis - Evensen and three reference places, Daniaparken, Raoul Wallenbergs torg and Norr Mälarstrand, I came up with a number of guidelines for my design proposal for Jönsaplan.
These two books complement each other in a good way. Thomas Thiis - Evensen is a bit more systematic in his description of the city than Gordon Cullen which I think writes more freely and does not use terms to the same extent. I also performed an analysis according to Kevin Lynch's method.
Three reference places were chosen. These places are except for their closeness to the sea quite different. Daniaparken is a contemporary park with elements of square characteristics. Raoul Wallenbergs torg is a place which is both square and a place with heavy traffic. Norr Mälarstrand is a centrally situated park with nature character.
With help from my guidelines, which I have developed, I designed a square which I gave the name Östra torget. This is the name the square had from the beginning. The proposal means that Östra torgets nearness to the sea and its contact with the surrounding areas is reinforced. The square contains among other things a round place, a residential building, a café and a guest harbour. |

Jönsaplan ligger centralt beläget i Södra centrum som kommunen arbetar för att utveckla, huvudsakligen genom att bygga nya bostäder. Idag fungerar Jönsaplan inte som torg mycket på grund av en båtterminals byggnader och avspärrningar. I mitt arbete har jag utgått från att båtterminalen flyttas så att Jönsaplan kan få bli ett riktigt torg. Genom att studera The Concise Townscape av Gordon Cullen och Byens uttrykksformer av Thomas Thiis - Evensen samt tre referensplatser, Daniaparken, Raoul Wallenbergs torg och Norr Mälarstrand kom jag fram till ett antal riktlinjer för mitt förslag för Jönsaplan. De båda böckerna kompletterar varandra på så sätt att Thomas Thiis - Evensen går lite mer systematiskt till väga i sin beskrivning av staden än Gordon Cullen som i mitt tycke skriver något friare och inte använder sig av termer i lika stor utsträckning. Jag utförde även en analys enligt Kevin Lynch’s metod. Tre referensplatser valdes för närmare studier. Platserna är förutom sin närhet till vatten ganska olika. Daniaparken är en samtida park med inslag av torgkaraktär. Raoul Wallenbergs torg är en plats som är både torg och trafikplats. Norr Mälarstrand är en centralt belägen park med naturkaraktär. Med hjälp av de riktlinjer jag satt upp ritade jag sedan ett förslag på torget som jag gav namnet Östra torget som är det namn torget hade från början. Förslaget innebär att Östra torgets närhet till havet och kontakt med kringliggande områden förstärks.
