In my search for sites and examples of conscious sound, I have talked to the people behind the projects I found - landscape architects, sound artists and architects. Influences from different areas have been essential for me in the project.
An important question in the design process has been to explore how to sketch with sound. I have tried to use the software for editing music to scetch sound environments in a similar way as we use image editing program to make illustrations. My method turned out to be too slow as a sketch tool but the more useful for design the final soundscape.
In the presentation of the sound design for Frodeparken, I have worked with interactive PDF documents to make sound design audible in the illustrated plan. Also the inventory and interpretation of the future sounds of the park have been formed into interactive PDF documents.
The proposal includes an sound walk through the park designed as a filmed collage where the perception of the sounds is intensified by association images. To create the soundtracks, I have worked in a studio with a Foley artist.
When making the perspective of sound conscious in the design process you get further possibilities to compose and design spaces. The first step is to learn to listen to the place. |

Det här arbetet är en spaning efter ljudet i landskapsarkitekturen idag, ett försök att kombinera ljud och musik med landskapsarkitektur. Jag har sökt exempel där man använt sig av ljud i gestaltningen av utemiljöer, speciellt där man med hjälp av högtalare medvetet lagt till ljud i en miljö. Inspirerad av vad jag funnit har jag gjort ett förslag på ljudgestaltning för Frodeparken, belägen alldeles intill Uppsalas järnvägsstation och kommande nya resecentrum. I mitt sökande efter platser och exempel på ljudgestaltning har jag samtalat med personer som jobbar med och verkar inom landskapsarkitektur, arkitektur, ljud konst och -installationer, forskning, musik och ljudsättning för att bredda mina influenser inom området mellan landskapsarkitektur och ljud. Vidare har jag undersökt möjligheterna att skissa med ljud, på liknande sätt som vi skissar visuellt med bilder. Musikredigeringsprogram användes för att skissa ljudidéer på samma sätt som vi använder bildredigeringsprogram för visuellt idé arbete. Den metod som jag prövade visade sig vara för ineffektiv för att tillämpa som kommunikativt verktyg men skulle däremot kunna fungera som privat skissmetod i vissa sammanhang. Inspirerad av de exempel på ljudgestaltning som jag har besökt, lyssnat på och läst om har jag gjort ett idéförslag för ljudgestaltning i Frodeparken i Uppsala. Frodeparken är vald av flera olika anledningar. Parken ligger nära stationen och berörs inom en kort tid av stora nybyggnationer intill samt kommer att ansluta till det nya resecentrumet. Ljudmässigt har parken ett intressant läge mellan de lugnare bostadskvarteren i nordost och den livligare stations- och resemiljön i sydväst. Genom att medvetandegöra ljud aspekten i gestaltningen ges ytterligare ett instrument att komponera och gestalta platsen med. Ett medvetet ljudtänkande i gestaltningen kan tillföra mycket till en plats. Jag har i min metod prövat möjligheterna att använda musikredigeringsprogram för att skissa med ljud, på samma sätt som vi använder till exempel Photoshop för att visualisera våra idéer. Metoden visade sig vara svårarbetad i skisskedet med begränsningar i bland annat ett alltför linjärt skissande och svårigheter att skissa upp tredimensionella ljudmiljöer. Arbetssättet lämpar sig mycket bättre som presentationsmetod. I min presentation av förslaget har jag arbetat tillsammans med en ljudsättare i studio för att göra ljudupplevelsen hörbar. I presentationen har jag försökt göra ljudupplevelsen så framträdande som möjligt. Det har jag gjort med hjälp av interaktiva Pdf-filer för inventering och förslaget. Förslaget kompletteras med en ljudsatt vandring genom parken i form av ett filmat collage där perceptionen av ljuden förstärks av associationsbilder. I arbetets slutskede fick jag kontakt med Thomas Lindner, arkitekt som intresserat sig för ljud och att presentera med ljud. Han bekräftar mitt arbetssätt med att beskriva sitt eget utforskande att addera ljudupplevelsen till presentationer av projekt. Lindner förklarar hur han började arbeta med interaktiva Pdf-filer, som fungerade som ljudvandringar, vidare till att göra ljudsättningar för byggnader på samma sätt som man bygger upp ljudmiljöer för ljudsättning av film.
