The problem formulation is: Is it possible for a graveyard to
be looked upon and used as a park? How do the administrators
and the designers reason in this matter and what are the
consequences for example the illumination at a graveyard?
This is being investigated and discussed in general and
thereafter the thesis is specifically focussed on the needs
and solutions for the graveyard at Galärvarvet.
The thesis, which is mainly based on facts from litterature,
location studies and interviews, contains of pure
parts of fact, discussion parts, different types of analyses,
reflections of the author, illustrations and photos
from the graveyard at Galärvarvet and also a lighting
proposal for the graveyard and its close environment.
The purpose of this work is to show the connection
between the usage of the graveyard and its illumination.
All to simplify for the administrators, planners and
designers. Hopefully this thesis will be of use in the
deciscion making process for future lighting projects for
the graveyard administration in Stockholm as a basis for
their discussion and decision process for future lighting
projects. |

Examensarbetet behandlar tre helt skilda områden: platsen, ljuset och gestaltningen vilka alla ingår i ämnet landskapsarkitektur. Platsen i detta fallet är kyrkogården, ljuset är det artificiella och gestaltningen är en ljussättning. Den gemensamma nämnaren är Galärvarvskyrkogården i Stockholm där alla tre delarna möts i ett tydligt och uttalat behov av ny belysning. Problemformuleringen är: Kan en kyrkogård betraktas och användas som en park? Hur resonerar förvaltarna respektive gestaltarna i frågan, och vilka konsekvenser får det för till exempel ljussättningen på en kyrkogård? Detta utreds och diskuteras generellt, därefter inriktas examensarbetet speciellt på Galärvarvskyrkogårdens behov och lösningar. Examensarbetet, som främst grundar sig på litteraturstudier, platsbesök och intervjuer, innehåller renodlade faktaavsnitt, diskuterande texter, analyser av olika slag, författarens reflektioner, illustrationer och bilder från Galärvarvskyrkogården samt ett förslag till ny belysning för kyrkogården och dess närmiljö. Målet med arbetet är att visa hur sambandet ser ut mellan nyttjandet av kyrkogården och ljussättningen av den. Detta för att förenkla för såväl förvaltare som planerare och gestaltare. Förhoppningsvis kommer Stockholms stads kyrkogårdsförvaltning ha nytta av examensarbetet som diskussions- och beslutsunderlag i framtida belysningsprojekt.
