Present recommendations concerning city design are presented along with guidelines from Vägverket (National Road Administration) for urban streets. The conclusion reached is that a fundamental structure of streets and roads, public and private spaces, is crucial for the possible future development of an area. A town plan suggests one such possible structure. According to the wishes of Östersund's Town Council a design for a street is also presented. |

Arbetet undersöker hur det tidigare militärområdet I5 i Östersund kan utvecklas för att bli till Stadsdel Norr - en levande del av stadens centrum. I en teoretisk del diskuteras vad som kännetecknar goda stadsmiljöer och gator. Östersunds och I5:s historia beskrivs kortfattat och de rekommendationer som finns i dagsläget för hur staden bör se ut presenteras tillsammans med Vägverkets föreskrifter för stadsgator. Slutsatsen i arbetet är att den grundläggande strukturen av gator, tomter och offentliga ytor är avgörande för hur området kan utvecklas i framtiden. Ett planförslag visar hur en sådan struktur skulle kunna se ut.
