It consists of a colourful striped carpet made from rubber surfacing covering part of the sidewalks of the central street "Dragarbrunnsgatan" in Uppsala, Sweden. Jag har valt att kalla mitt designprojekt Istället för träd, då jag utgår från sätt att ersätta träd i stadsbilden genom att analysera vad träden egentligen har för olika funktioner. Genom att gestalta trädets funktioner och samtidigt utforska den kreativa processen gör jag det möjligt att följa mitt eget idéskapande vilket är projektets syfte. Jag använder mig av en metod för designarbete där funktionerna renodlas och uttrycks i aktiv form, exempelvis ”att ge skugga”. Jag presenterar elva olika idéer och genom att visa dem och redovisa hur jag kommit fram till dem blir det möjligt att följa skissprocessen. Mina slutsatser om den kreativa processen är bland annat att den är en icke-linjär händelsekedja och att faktorer som metod, intryck och slumpen inverkar. Kreativiteten kräver ställtid, en förberedelsetid där idéer så att säga får mogna. Det tycks även som att den kreativa processen fortsätter att pågå då man kopplar av. En av idéerna har jag vidareutvecklat till färdig formgivning som presenteras i detta arbete. Det är en färgstark trasmatta i gummiasfalt som jag föreslår skall breda ut sig längs Dragarbrunnsgatan i Uppsala.
