This information can be valuable when examining the ovaries of the bitch with ulstrasound.
Fifty dogs where included in the study, 27 where in anoestrus, 5 where in proöestrus/oestrus and 18 where in dioestrus. The length of the anoestrus ovary varied between 9,60 – 16,8 mm. The smaller dogs had smaller ovaries than the big dogs. The diameter of the corpus luteum varied between 2,56 -10,38 mm. There where no difference in dog size and the size of corpus luteum. The biggest follicle measured 8,08 mm in diameter. |

Vid ultraljudsundersökning på tikens äggstockar krävs idag bättre referensvärden än vad som funnits tidigare för att kunna skilja ett normalt utseende från ett patologiskt. I denna studie studerades äggstockarna hos 50 gatuhundar som kastrerades vid två olika djursjukhus i Indien. För att kunna bedöma var i östralcykeln hundarna befann sig togs vaginalprov och progesteronprov på tikarna. Hundarna vägdes och hull och ålder uppskattades. Äggstockarnas längd, höjd och bredd mättes med ett skjutmått. På strukturerna i äggstockarna, som huvudsakligen bestod av folliklar och gulkroppar, mättes diametern. Av de 50 tikarna var 27 i anöstrus, 3 i proöstrus, 2 i östrus och 18 i diöstrus. Längden på äggstockarna varierade mellan 9,60-19,60 mm, bredden 4,20-10,36 och höjden 3,34-9,50. Hos hundarna i anöstrus sågs ett signifikant samband mellan äggstockarnas storlek och hundarnas kroppsvikt. Något sådant samband sågs inte i proöstrus och östrus där storleken på äggstockarna i första hand berodde på folliklarnas och gulkropparnas storlek, placering och antal. Förutom äggstockarnas storlek mättes också storleken på olika strukturer i äggstockarna vilka framför allt var folliklar och gulkroppar. Den anöstrala äggstocken innehöll oftast strukturer som var mindre än 1 mm i diameter medan strukturerna hos hundarna i östrus, proöstrus och diöstrus av naturliga skäl var större. Hos hundarna i östrus och proöstrus varierade folliklarna mellan 2,00-8,08 mm.
