Clinical symptoms associated with E coli mastitis are described and information on when these cases of mastitis usually occurs is given. Risk factors in the cow's enviroment are described as well as the importance of the cow's immune defence. Swedish recommendations regarding therapy and profylaxis are described at individual and herd level. Finally, a comparison of biochemical characteristics of Swedish E coli isolates using the Pheneplate-method is described. |

Escherichia (E) coli är en av de vanligaste juverpatogenerna i samband med akut klinisk mastit hos svenska mjölkkor. Avsikten med detta arbete är att utifrån svenska förhållanden ge en sammanställning av en del av den litteratur som finns rörande E coli-mastit. Bakterien, dess främsta egenskaper och fältmässig diagnostik behandlas liksom vad som händer i samband med infektion samt hur E coli påverkar kon och vad det får för följder. Kliniska symptom vid E coli-mastit beskrivs och information om när dessa mastiter vanligen förekommer ges. Riskfaktorer i kons närmiljö beskrivs liksom betydelsen av kons immunförsvar. Svenska rekommendationer rörande behandling och profylax beskrivs på individ- och besättningsnivå.
