In this study 15 dogs diagnosed with acute prostatitis at the small animal clinic at SLU in Uppsala were examined. The clinical signs and the ultrasound pictures were put together in retrospect. The aim with this study was to describe the ultrasound appearances in dogs clinically diagnosed with acute prostatitis.
The weight of the dogs in the study was between 13,5 kg and 42 kg with an average weight of 31,4 kg. The age was 4 years and 1 month to 13 years and 11 months with an average age of 9 years and 3 months.
The most common symptom in the dogs in the study was fever, blood in the urine or from the penis, problem while urinating, pain at palpation of the prostate, tense at abdominal palpation, defecating problems, vomiting and depression. Five dogs had bacteria in the urine.
At ultrasound examination all dogs had prostates with mixed echogenicity, a majority had focal or multifocal areas with hypoechogenicity and cysts, three dogs had areas with hyperechogenicity. Five of the dogs in this study had signs of peritonitis seen as hyperechoic fat or free fluid around the prostate. |

Den ger symtom som feber, smärta, trötthet, infertilitet, ovilja att para och ibland symtom från urinvägarna. Vanligtvis görs en ultraljudsundersökning på hundar med misstanke om prostataförändringar. I denna studie undersöktes 15 hundar diagnostiserade med akut prostatit vid smådjurskliniken, SLU, Uppsala. Retrospektivt sammanställdes kliniska symtom och ultraljudsbilden. Syftet var att beskriva ultraljudsutseendet på hundar som kliniskt bedöms ha akut prostatit. Vikten på hundarna i studien låg mellan 13,5 kg och 42 kg med en medelvikt på 31,4 kg. Åldern sträckte sig mellan 4 år och 1 månad och 13 år och 11 månader med en medelålder på 9 år och 3 månader. De vanligaste kliniska symtomen på hundarna i studien var feber, blod i urinen eller från penis, problem med urinering, smärta vid palpation av prostata, spänd buk vid palpation, defekeringsproblem, kräkningar och nedsatt allmäntillstånd. Fem av hundarna hade bakterier i urinen. Vid ultraljudsundersökningen hade prostata en blandad ekogenicitet hos alla hundar, en majoritet hade fokala eller multifokala områden med hypoekogenicitet och cystor, tre stycken hade områden med hyperekogenicitet. Fem av hundarna i studien hade tecken på peritonit i form av hyperekoiskt fett eller fri vätska kring prostata.
