The main objective for this study is to compare three different heating systems to decide how they differ considering effort and cost. The result from the calculations was that grain-heating system demanded the least amount of work, but the total cost was a little higher compared to chips heating. Chips heating required half as much work as today's wood heating and had a little lower total costs compared with the corn heating. Which system to choose largely depends on how the own work is valued. If one does not want to get paid for their work, then the cheapest alternative is to complement the existing boiler with a chips system. Another influencing factor is if the farm owns its own woods. The forest has to be managed anyway and from there cheap energy may be extracted instead of being sold for little money.

Bakgrunden till mitt arbete är att med stigande el och oljepriser blir det intressant att räkna på alternativa uppvärmningssystem. Jag har valt att räkna på min föräldragård som idag värmer sitt bostadshus med ved. Detta är mycket arbetskrävande och det är tid som kan läggas på någonting annat. Syftet med mitt arbete är att jämföra tre olika uppvärmningssystem för att se hur arbetsåtgång och kostnader skiljer sig mellan varandra. Resultatet av kalkylerna blev att spannmålseldning var det uppvärmningssystem som krävde minst arbete men hade lite högre totalkostnader än flis. Fliseldning krävde hälften så mycket arbete som dagens befintliga vedeldning och har lite lägre totalkostnader än spannmålseldning. Vilket system man ska välja beror till stor del hur man värdesätter sitt eget arbete. Vill man inte ha någon lön för sitt arbete så är det billigaste systemet att komplettera sin befintliga vedpanna med en flisanläggning.
