| Sumario: | It has been even more important in the forest sector in recent years to look at the whole chain from suppliers to end users, to improve operations and improve performance and the profits of the company. The research and development have been concentrated on the buyer's market and product development, probably because this research has capability to give an increased cash flow. But to obtain stability and continuity in the production and selling units, the suppliers should also be investigated. The aim of this thesis is to study a one company's existing suppliers of roundwood and investigate the differences and attitudes they have about the company offerings. The study begins with questionnaires that were sent to fifty existing suppliers (i.e. forest owners). The question's concerned the most important factors when selling roundwood to a sawmill.
Based on the survey segmentation in to two groups are suggested. The two segments attitudes were investigated with a multiattribute attitude model. The result shows that the segment small forest owners consider services offered as the most important factor when choosing a buyer of lumber. For the other segment large forest owners, the price is the most important factor when choosing buyer. Large forest owners are furthermore less loyal to the buyer.
To increase the loyalty and put the company as the most advantageous buyer, it is suggested that the company communicate that they are the most personal and offer advice for the segment especially to small forest owners. For large forest owners is it suggested that the company create bindings and offer an economic security for the suppliers. |
