The survey to the present customers was conducted through a questioner. A sample of those who stated an interest for either sawn wood products of large dimensions or planed goods, were later contacted for a telephone interview.
To reach out to new customers, relevant companies has been identified through the Swedish Trade Councils data base and through the member list of the Timber Trade Federation. By doing a literature study and through interviews with the personal at Wallnäs, i've gained the information behind the chapter concerning prerequisites for the raw material and the production of sawn wood products of large dimensions.
The results show that there is a significant demand for sawn wood products of large dimensions, primarily whitewood. I refer to sawn wood products of large dimensions as 250-300 mm in width and 50-100 mm in thickness. During the interviews with the interested companies I've learned that the main use of the lumber is in construction. The demand that construction lumber sets on the wood is primarly firmness. To acquire this, the timber has to be slow growing with a small yearly increment and have the same fibre direction throughout the wood piece.
Among the new customers that I've managed to establish contact with, British companies dominate. Most of the companies are intressted in buying sawn wood products of standard dimensions, but also planed wood products. |

Syftet med det här arbetet är att undersöka om det finns någon efterfrågan av grova sågade dimensioner och hyvlade varor hos Wallnäs AB:s kunder. Arbetet tar form dels i en undersökning hos Wallnäs nuvarande kunder, dels i en marknadsundersökning syftad till att utöka deras kundbas. Det ingår också en avdelning som beskriver de råvaruförutsättningar som krävs för att producera de efterfrågade produkterna. Undersökningen av de befintliga kunderna genomfördes som en enkätundersökning. Ett urval av dem som uppgav intresse för grova sågade dimensioner eller hyvlade produkter kontaktades senare för telefonintervju. För att nå ut till nya kunder har intressanta företag identifierats genom sökningar i Svenska Exportrådets databas samt genom Timber Trade Federations medlemsregister. Genom litteraturstudier och samtal med personal vid Wallnäs AB har materialet för avdelningen om råvaru- och produktionsförutsättningarna framtagits. Det framkommer att det finns en betydande efterfrågan av de grova sågade dimensionerna, och då framförallt av gran. Med grova sågade dimensioner avses tjocklek mellan 50-100 mm och bredd mellan 250-300 mm. I intervjuerna med de intresserade företagen framgår att det huvudsakliga användningsområdet är konstruktionsvirke. De krav som konstruktionsvirke ställer på råvaran är framförallt ur hållbarhetssynpunkt. Detta ger att virket skall vara tätvuxet, d.v.s ha tätt mellan årsringar samt ha en enhetlig fiberriktning. Bland de nya kunder som kontakt har skapats med dominerar Brittiska företag.
