Some questions that have been used to answer this purpose are: Who is visiting/not visiting the recreation area? How is it possible to increase the number of visits? The study is carried out in Kilsbergen and mainly centered around Ånnaboda, which is the natural place for people to meet at and undertake recreational activities.
The method that is used is a mail-survey that was sent to visitors and people living in Örebro. People living in Örebro represent potential visitors who live close to the recreation area. 500 surveys were sent to each of the two groups. 412 of the visitors replied while just 318 of the people living in Örebro replied. The respondent rate was large enough to declare the results reliable. The survey of the visitors was spread out over three seasons; summer, autumn and winter, with the reason to discover as many different people and purposes as possible. The questions in the survey were mostly close-ended to make it easier for the respondents, since difficult questions have a risk with a high falling of answers. Many of the questions directly refer to a certain visit; this is to help the respondents think of a specific occasion. Otherwise there is a risk of answering like one whishes to answer and not how the situation actually was.
Kilsbergen is a popular excursion area with diverse participation among the visitors. Every year about 500 000 people visit the area in different seasons for different activities. This is a reason why it might be hard to please everyone. Generally it could be said that almost everyone stays in the area for few hours, hardly anyone comes alone, most of the people travel by car and live about 20 kilometer from Kilsbergen. The group called "visitors" has a larger interest of outdoor recreation than the people living in Örebro, the "visitors" also go to Kilsbergen more often. To encourage "visitors" continue to visit the area, physical improvements (like hiking trails, maps and picnic areas) are shown to be the best ways, since these people have already found activities and values they like in the area. But to attract new visitors, it is preferred to expand the organization of activities and events.
The managing of forests in an outdoor recreation area is seldom done accordingly to what is wanted by the recreationalist. This study shows that there exists a resistance against
appearance of dead trees or branches in the forest. This means that managing for biodiversity does not necessary mean that outdoor recreation is encouraged, instead, both these aspects together with production should be considered in a multiple use of the forest.
The study shows that people in average are prepared to pay about 15 SEK for each visit to
Kilsbergen. There are no significant differences between the ones who answered the question about willingness to pay for keeping the standard or the ones answering the willingness to pay for improvements. The charge that is accepted to be paid is rather small compared with the time used for each visit and the cost for transportation to the area. Outdoor recreation is highly valued and also improves the public health. In view of that, it might be as important for a governmentally owned company like Sveaskog to encourage outdoor recreation in order to improve the public health instead of receiving any direct incomes from outdoor recreation. |

I detta examensarbete presenteras en metod som på ett effektivt sätt kan användas för att ta reda på hur Sveaskog kan utveckla möjligheterna för fler att nyttja Sveaskogs marker för naturupplevelser. En del av syftet är också att ta reda på vilka som idag besöker friluftsområdet och varför de gör det. Vidare diskuteras det i arbetet om och hur Sveaskog skulle kunna få intäkter från besöksnäringen. Metoden är tänkt att kunna användas i liknande områden för att samla kunskap om vad som är önskvärt i rekreationsområden. Studien är gjord i Kilsbergen som ligger cirka 20 kilometer nordväst om Örebro. Området runt Ånnaboda är mest studerat eftersom det är den naturliga samlingspunkten för en stor del av friluftslivet. Två olika postenkäter skickades ut till grupperna Besökare respektive Örebrobor. Örebroborna representerar potentiella besökare som bor i närheten av Kilsbergen. Till vardera grupp skickades 500 enkäter ut. Av ”Besökarna” svarade 412 och av ”Örebroborna” svarade 318. Enkäten till ”Besökare” fördelades över tre säsonger; sommar, höst och vinter. Detta för att sprida studien och få med så många olika ”Besökare” som möjligt. Frågorna i enkätformuläret har oftast haft fasta svarsalternativ, det gör det lättare för den som svarar. Svåra frågor riskerar stort bortfall. Många av frågorna refererar till ett specifikt besök för att den som svarar ska ha något konkret fall att tänka på, annars blir svaren lätt generella och den svarande anger omedvetet vad han/hon skulle vilja och inte hur det faktiskt är. Kilsbergen är ett populärt utflyktsområde med bred publik. Varje år besöker cirka 500 000 personer området. Besöken är spridda mellan olika säsonger och aktiviteter. Därför kan det vara svårt att vara alla till lags. Vad som kan sägas allmänt om besöken till Kilsbergen, är att de flesta stannar i några timmar, få kommer hit ensamma, nästan alla åker bil och de flesta bor cirka 20 kilometer ifrån området. Gruppen ”Besökare” har ett större friluftsintresse och besöker Kilsbergen oftare än gruppen ”Örebrobor”. ”Besökare” har hittat aktiviteter och värden de tycker om i Kilsbergen och för att behålla dem som redan besöker området bör man satsa på fysiska förändringar som till exempel mer leder, kartor och rastplatser. Men för att attrahera potentiella besökare som inte vet om vad som skulle kunna tilltala dem, bör man satsa på organiserade aktiviteter och evenemang för att få upp intresset för Kilsbergen. Skogsskötseln i friluftsområden är sällan anpassad efter vilka egenskaper som önskas av friluftsutövarna i ett sådant område. Denna studie visar på ett motstånd till död ved eller trädrester. Detta visar på att skötsel för biologisk mångfald inte nödvändigtvis behöver gynna friluftslivet, istället bör båda aspekterna tillsammans med produktion uppmärksammas i ett mångbruk av skogen. Studien visar en genomsnittlig betalningsvilja på cirka 15 kronor per besök. Inga signifikanta skillnader fanns mellan de som svarade på frågan om hur mycket de var beredda att betala för förbättringar eller de som svarade på frågan om hur mycket de var beredda att betala för att ha kvar standarden. 15 kronor är relativt lite med tanke på den tid som läggs ner i området och hur mycket transporten dit kostar. Men det kan vara minst lika viktigt för ett statligt ägt bolag som Sveaskog att gynna friluftslivet för att förbättra folkhälsan som att få inkomster direkt från friluftslivet.
