Sumario:The purpose of Älvdalens besparingsskog is to develop the district and most of all the forestry in Älvdalen. It's owned by about 2 300 private forest owners who's landed properties are located in Älvdalen. Every year the besparingsskogen gives out a lot of its profit in form different types of subsidies for agriculture and forestry. The owners can apply for subsidies for several of the costs that occur in forestry. During the period 2000-2003 the owners are offered forest management plans and pcSKOG-gård at no cost for their private forest properties. The purpose of this master's thesis was to find out if the activity in the forestry changed when the forest owners got new forest management plans and the computer program pcSKOG-gård. The activities that have been studied are clearing of a felling area, regeneration felling, soil scarification, planting, precommercial thinning, thinning, and change of ownership. This study has been done as a master's thesis for a master of scince in forestry at the Swedish University of Agriculture Sciences during the academic year 2001/2002. The method that has been used is a quantitative inquiry based on qualitative interviews. The result shows a great change in activity. The forest management plan has changed all the activities from a low level up to a very high level. For instances have thinning and precommercial thinning have increased with nearly 115 percent respective 320 percent and regeneration felling has increased with 145 percent. Even the other investigated activities have increased. One out of four forest owners say that they have thought of, or already have carried through a change of ownership as a result of the new plan. If they will carry through a change of ownership of all there landed properties, 26 percent of the investigated area will get new owners. The program pcSKOG-gård has been given to eight out of ten of the investigated forest owners, but unfortunately not all of them use it. Today the forest owners have access to support by telephone, but still many of them think that the program is difficult to use. Although many think that the program is difficult to use, 70 % of the program units are used in some way. The forest owners have access to support by telephone or direct help when they visit the office of pcSKOG AB, but a lot of the forest owners want more classroom lectures similar to what they already got. In the long run the goal of pcSKOG AB is that the computer program will be used in a higher degree for both silviculture, hunting and outdoor life. The forest management plan and the computer program pcSKOG-gård and the education program that are paid for by the besparingsskogen have during a very short period of time increased the forest owner's activities. The study shows that this increase will continue during the period of 2002-2006.
