Some of the trading partners are EU and Ethiopia, this because of less expensive commodities from EU than they are in Ethiopia. The most important agricultural commodity is wheat. Ethiopia is a poor country, whose inhabitants mostly are living on agriculture. The majority of the people are living from agricultural production and because of that changes in the price of wheat affect many people in the country.
Using economic theory, this thesis investigates if and if possible how, Ethiopia is influenced from the import. Welfare theory complemented with analysis and discussions were used while answering the question. To investigate the effects in Ethiopia two different price changes were studied. Because of problems finding good data the thesis only cover the years 1999 to 2003. The thesis is ending with a discussion around the results and things that could influence the results.
The result shows that a lower price influence gives a lower net welfare, but there is a winning situation if there is trade with EU. But it is hard to se if there is a winning situation for every one in Ethiopia. Probably there is a loss for the farmers because they get less money when they compete with commodities from EU. |

Handel mellan länder görs dagligen runt om i världen. Varor byter ägare och fraktas långa sträckor med flyg, båt, tåg, etc. Det är inget undantag att varor importeras av länder som betraktas som världens fattigaste. Ett av dessa är Etiopien och varje år får landet importer från bland annat Europeiska Unionen. Denna import är billig i jämförelse med priserna i landet. En stor del av denna import är jordbruksprodukter och i synnerhet vete. Vete är en viktig jordbruksprodukt i Etiopien och ingår i lokalbefolkningens matvanor. Genom att använda nationalekonomisk teori har arbetet att svara på om, och i möjliggrad hur, Etiopien påverkas av import från EU. Välfärdsteori kompletteras med analyser och diskussioner för att besvara frågan. Välfärdsteorin gav en fingervisning om hur landet påverkas. För att se hur Etiopien påverkas valdes att titta på två olika prispåverkan och vad som sker med dessa som grund. På grund av brist på trovärdig fakta gjordes ett val att bara använda de senare åren i studien. Under dessa år finns bra information från etiopiska och icke-etiopiska källor. Beräkningarna visar på att en lägre prispåverkan ger en mindre välfärdseffekt än en full prispåverkan. Att EU påverkar Etiopien visas med beräkningar, men om det påverkar så mycket som framgår är svårt att avgöra med det dataunderlag som varit tillgängligt. Etiopiens jordbruk påverkas av det lägre priset från EU men mindre desto mindre prispåverkan.
