To prevent the spread of infectious diseases it is important that the staff understands the importance of basic hygiene. Hand hygiene and disinfection and cleaning with water and detergent combined are the most important routines to prevent spreading of disease.
In conclusion the differences between the veterinary and the public health sector are small, but some basic differences exist due to the nature of the patient's needs. |

To prevent the spread of infectious diseases it is important that the staff understands the importance of basic hygiene. Hand hygiene and disinfection and cleaning with water and detergent combined are the most important routines to prevent spreading of disease. In conclusion the differences between the veterinary and the public health sector are small, but some basic differences exist due to the nature of the patient's needs. Syftet med denna rapport är att skapa en lättillgänglig handbok avseende basal hygien, städning och desinfektion inom smådjurssjukvården. Rapporten är baserad på en litteraturstudie i vilken främst källor från humansjukvården har använts. Detta på grund av att det är brist på forskning och därmed även vetenskapliga artiklar med veterinär anknytning inom detta område. För att förhindra spridning av smittsamma sjukdomar är det viktigt att personalen inser vikten av att tillämpa basala hygienrutiner. Handhygien och desinfektion, och städning med vatten och rengöringsmedel, är de viktigaste åtgärderna för att förhindra smittspridning. Sammanfattningsvis är skillnaderna mellan djur- och humansjukvården förhållandevis små när det gäller hygien och städning, men vissa skillnader är ofrånkomliga och beror på patienternas olika behov.
