We think that this is an interesting subject and therefore we want to find out what rehabilitation methods that are available in Sweden for dogs and horses. We want to give animal nurses and other persons who have animals as an occupation an survey that shortly describes how the methods are performed, what physical effect they have in the body and to give examples in what conditions they are used. To find out what rehabilitation methods that are available we sent out two different questionnaires, one to hospitals/clinics for small animals and one to hospitals/clinics for horses and other companies that works with rehabilitation of horses. The information about the methods described in our project we have found in literature and on the Internet. We have included methods like massage, water therapy, chiropractic, ultrasound, acupuncture and laser. Our work has been complicated because of difficulties to find scientific literature and because the definition of what methods included in rehabilitation is indistinct. It is also difficult to know what methods are used in Sweden. However, we have got a survey of many of the rehabilitation methods that are used, both the ones that we knew of before and methods that we found out about through the questionnaires. We hope that the research work of this subject develops in the future so the rehabilitation of animals becomes even more effective. |

Vi tycker att det är ett intressant ämne och vill därför ta reda på vilka rehabiliteringsmetoder som finns för hund och häst i Sverige. Vi vill ge djursjukvårdare och andra yrkesgrupper som arbetar med djur en översikt som kortfattat beskriver hur metoderna utförs, vilken fysisk effekt de har i kroppen och ta upp exempel på vid vilka tillstånd man använder dem. För att ta reda på vilka rehabiliteringsmetoder som används skickade vi ut två olika enkäter, en till smådjurssjukhus/kliniker och en till hästsjukhus/kliniker och andra företag som arbetar med rehabilitering av häst. Information om de metoder vi skrivit om har vi tagit från litteratur och Internet. Exempel på metoder som vi tagit upp i arbetet är massage, vattenterapi, kiropraktik, ultraljud, akupunktur och laser. Arbetet har försvårats av att det har varit svårt att hitta vetenskaplig litteratur, att definitionen av vilka metoder som ingår i begreppet rehabilitering är oklar samt att det är svårt att veta vilka metoder som används i Sverige. Vi har ändå fått en överblick över många av de rehabiliteringsmetoder som finns, både sådana som vi kände till innan och andra metoder som framkom genom vår enkät. Vi hoppas att forskningen inom detta område utvecklas i framtiden så att vi kan få en effektivare rehabilitering för djur.
