The diagnostic process includes symptoms, physical findings, differential diagnosis,
intradermal test and serological test.
The options of treatment are several and vary for each patient. The report includes
hyposensitization, medical treatment such as corticosteroids, antihistamin and cyclosporine, topical treatment, fatty acid supplements and environmental treatment.
The prognosis is individual for each patient due to their different response to the treatment.
It may take a while to find the right combination of treatments to achieve satisfactory
control of the disease. |

Jag har försökt tydliggöra den immunologiska bakgrunden till allergiska reaktioner, och hur reaktionen uppstår och påverkar kroppen. Symptomen är många, mest förekommande är klåda, erythem och alopeci och symptomen är direkt relaterade till immunförsvarets reaktion på ett allergen. Man diagnostiserar atopi först och främst med utgångspunkt från symptomen. Det är viktigt att man utesluter differentialdiagnoser innan man går vidare. Efter det att trolig diagnos är ställd finns det olika alternativ för att ta reda på mer exakt vilka ämnen hunden reagerar på. I arbetet beskrivs både intradermaltest och påvisande av IgEspecifika antikroppar via blodprov. Behandlingsmöjligheterna är många och individanpassas. I arbetet beskrivs hyposensibilisering, medicinering, utvärtesbehandling, kosttillskott samt miljöbehandling. Prognosen är varierande då patienterna reagerar väldigt olika på de behandlingsalternativ som finns tillgängliga och man kan behöva prova sig fram innan man hittar en behandling som fungerar tillfredställande.
