Sc) -- CATIE, Turrialba (Costa Rica), 2009 El presente estudio se llevó a cabo en la zona Trifinio, Honduras en las comunidades de Plan del Rancho, El Portillo, Nueva Esperanza, El Chorro, El Volcán y San Francisco Sumpul en el departamento de Ocotepeque, donde se realizó la caracterización de la oferta y demanda de semilla de papa, la identificación de las limitantes agroecológicas y socioeconómicas de la Producción, uso y manejo de la semilla de papa. Por otra parte, el alto costo de la semilla, las condiciones de almacenamiento inadecuadas y la falta de aplicación de buenas prácticas de manejo son limitantes para la conservación de la calidad de la semilla. Además, el uso excesivo de agroquímicos pone en riesgo la sostenibilidad del sistema de Producción de papa. Entre las potencialidades identificadas lo más importante fué que la zona presenta condiciones aptas para la Producción de semilla de calidad, como alternativa para mejorar la competitividad de la cadena, por lo que en este estudio se propone una estrategia de innovación para la Producción local de semilla de papa de calidad. This study was conducted in the area of Trifinio, Honduras, in the communities of Rancho Plan, El Portillo, Nueva Esperanza, El Chorro, El Volcan and San Francisco Sumpul, in the department of Ocotepeque, to characterize the supply and demand for seed potatoes, the identification of constraints agroecological and socioeconomic production use and management of seed potatoes. Moreover, the high cost of seed, poor storage conditions and lack of implementation of good management practices are constraints to the conservation of seed quality. Moreover, excessive use of agrochemicals threatens the sustainability of potato production. Among the possiblities identified, the most important was that the area presents suitable conditions for the production of quality seeds, as an alternative to improve the competitiveness of the chain.
