Sc) -- CATIE, Turrialba (Costa Rica), 2006 El propósito del estudio fue caracterizar los sistemas silvopastoriles (SSP), generar información sobre el uso y aprovechamiento de la cobertura arbórea y determinar su contribución al bienestar socioeconómico del ganadero en Copán, Honduras. Se encontraron tres tamaños de productores: pequeños, medianos y grandes con características económicas y sociales diferentes. Se realizó una caracterización arbórea en 82 ha y 66 cercas vivas distribuidas en 27 fincas. El aprovechamiento de la cobertura arbórea ayuda a mejorar la rentabilidad de los sistemas ganaderos, sobre todo en los pequeños productores. Se utilizaron 22 indicadores socioeconómicos de tres componentes: productividad, autonomía y aporte de los SSP, para desarrollar un índice de bienestar socioeconómico. No se encontraron diferencias significativas para los tres componentes en ninguno de los grupos de productores. The objectives of this research project were to characterize silvopastoral systeMON (SSP), to generate information about the use and utilization of the tree cover and to determinate their contribution to farmer socioeconomic welfare in Copán, Honduras. Three farmers'sizes were found: small, medium and large with different economic and social characteristics. Within the silvopastoral systeMON found on 27 cattle farMON, tree characterizations were conducted on 82 ha of pastures and within 66 live fences. Tree cover is used to improve the livestock system profitability, especially for small farmers. A socioeconomic welfare index was conducted using 22 socioeconomic indicators divided in three components: productivity, autonomy and SSP contribution.
