(En, Es) Se investigó el potencial de cinco especies de gramíneas como barreras biológicas para reducir la competencia radicular entre árboles maderables de crecimiento rápido (Eucalyptus deglupta y Cordia alliodora) y cultivos asociados. Las barreras impidieron el paso de las raíces de C. alliodora de ocho meses de edad, pero fueron inefectivas contra las raíces de E. deglupta de cuatro meses de edad. El crecimiento de ambas especies de árboles en asociación con las gramíneas fue menor que en el control. Debe ser posible mejorar el efecto de las barreras estableciendo varias hileras en lugar de una o reduciendo la distancia de siembra dentro de la hilera. A study was made of the potential of five species of gramineae as biological barriers to reduce root competition between rapidly growing timber trees (Eucalyptus deglupta and Cordia alliodora) and associated crops. These barriers limited the development of the roots of eight month old C alliodora, but were not effective against the roots of four month old E deglupta. The growth of both tree species was reduced when barriers were present.
